At a time when many are wondering if short-term interest rates will hold steady, the Carroll School of Management is getting ready to host a Federal Reserve president and other experts at its annual Finance Conference in early June on the Chestnut Hill campus.
Headlining the June 6 discussions will be Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas President , who will deliver the keynote address that morning. Kaplan will speak two days before the start of the Fed鈥檚 traditional blackout period, which limits what officials can say publicly in advance of the central bank鈥檚 regular meetings to set monetary policy. So his remarks will draw attention from those looking for last-minute signals of action taken by policy makers at their mid-June meeting.
Joining Kaplan at the daylong conference will be a cross-section of prominent academics, practitioners, and policy makers. 鈥淭his year, the Carroll School is pleased to welcome a number of high-profile speakers,鈥� said the Carroll School鈥檚 John and Linda Powers Family Dean Andy Boynton, adding that these industry leaders and experts 鈥渨ill provide attendees with valuable insights on financial markets and investing.鈥�
Uncertainty about the Fed鈥檚 next moves has been running high. Helping to throw light on not just this question but a raft of issues in finance will be panels at the conference with titles such as 鈥淚nvestment Insights,鈥� 鈥淚nflation: What the Future Holds,鈥� and 鈥淭he State of the Globe: A Geopolitical Perspective,鈥� as well as 鈥淭he Transformation of Financial Advisory Services.鈥�
Carroll School professors Jonathan Reuter and Jeffrey Pontiff, both of the Finance Department, will offer their insights at the gathering. Several alumni will take part as well, including panel moderators Daniel E. Holland III 鈥�79, P鈥�07, 鈥�08, managing director of private wealth management at Goldman Sachs; Lindsay LoBue 鈥�96, advisory director at Goldman; and Marc Seidner 鈥�88, chief investment officer of non-traditional strategies at PIMCO.
