Remembrance—Memorial Day 2022

On this Memorial Day I am reminded of a story about John T. Coll, Jr., a member of the Ï㽶Ðã Class of 1966, who is included on Ï㽶Ðã's Veterans Memorial Wall as a result of his death in Vietnam in 1967. John was a member of the University Chorale of Boston College, and was commissioned from the University's Army ROTC program; I share both distinctions with him.

Upon learning of his unfortunate death, the Chorale quickly organized a memorial Mass for him. It was held on campus in St. Joseph's Chapel and was attended by most of the Chorale members. The singing of hymns that night was especially wonderful and I'm sure the event is well-remembered by all in attendance. Many tears were shed that evening for a dear friend and respected colleague.
