Michael Rossi has spent the last nineteen years creating national programs for public television. In 2012, Rossi received an Emmy Award for his work as Coordinating Producer of the children's engineering series DESIGN SQUAD. His production credits for AMERICAN EXPERIENCE include: Building the Alaska Highway,ÌýThe Gold Rush (2007 Erik Barnouw Award),ÌýWe Shall Remain, The Rise and Fall of Penn Station, The Bombing of Wall Street, and The Race Underground. He also served as an embedded filmmaker on the 2011 Student Freedom; produced a series of short films for Freedom Summer @ 50, profiling participants of the 1964 Freedom Summer project in Mississippi; and made a series of short films for The Boys of '36,Ìýprofiling U.S. Olympic rowers. Other credits include The Silence for FRONTLINE. Currently, Rossi is producing and directing The Master Palindromist, a feature-length documentary about Barry Duncan, a self-proclaimed master of reversibility, who is honing his skills in an effort to reassess his life, and possibly change the world. He also serves as producer, director, DP, and editor of the PBS storytelling series Stories from the Stage. His current project for AMERICAN EXPERIENCE is Mr. Tornado, tracing the life of Tetsuya Theodore Fujita, a prominent Japanese-American researcher who was instrumental in advancing modern understanding of many severe weather phenomena and known for creating the Fujita scale of tornado intensity and damage.
