Overview

Enterprise Applications and Data Services provides a wide portfolio of services to the Boston College community by developing, supporting, and delivering state of the art computer applications, data products, and infrastructure to support and further the mission and vision of Boston College.ÌýÌý

In addition, Enterprise Applications and Data Services implements and integrates a variety of computer applications and data solutions using various development tools and platforms via a lifecycle approach, including: project management, requirements definition, analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, support, and retirement.

Scope

  • Administrative Applications – Focuses on the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) application portfolio, which comprises Advancement, Facilities Management, Research, Finance, Human Resources, and additional document management, job scheduling, reporting, and workflow functionality.
  • Academic ApplicationsÌý - Provides technical integration and support for critical services across most academic and student care functions. These include:Ìý
    • Enrollment - Undergraduate and graduate admission, International student immigration, orientation, Pre-med programs, and Pre-college summer programs.
    • Academic Services - Advising, student success, tutoring, learning management systems, field placement and study abroad.Ìý
    • Student Care - Residential Life services, health services, counseling, disability accommodation, travel safety, career services, student conduct and student organizations.Ìý
    • Faculty Support - Digital publishing, faculty reporting, research protections, course evaluations, adjunct faculty onboarding.Institute for Advanced Jesuit Studies .
  • Enterprise Data Services ensures enterprise data (academic and administrative) is available to the people and applications that need it in a secure, consistent, and accessible manner through data-centric products, infrastructure, and services, resulting in operational efficiencies, actionable insights, and better decision-making. Business, Planning, and Project Services

Overview

The Business, Planning, and Project Services team provides ITS Administrative, Financial, Human Resource, Project and Portfolio Management, and Strategic Planning services in support of University and ITS strategic goals and objectives.

Scope

  • Fiscal Management and Budget Functions – Develop, implement, and monitor financial controls and compliance; manage and control the capital and operating budget processes; prepare and provide financial reporting and analysis; monitor contracts and assist with business case funding development.Ìý
  • Business Services Leadership and Operations – Develop and coordinate policies, procedures, standards, reports, and support for ITS business services; collaborate with central administration; resolve operational issues and problems; incorporate best practices and implement process improvements.
  • Human Resources Management – Provide leadership, guidance and support to ITS managers and staff for HR processes; including talent acquisition, on-boarding activities, annual merit and performance management, employee engagement activities that sustain and build on our shared core values and foster a welcoming, inclusive culture.
  • Project Management – Develop and document policy, standards, guidelines, and procedures for ITS project management; recommend project management tools, develop templates, and adopt appropriate best practices; provide project management services and oversight for select projects.
  • Planning and Governance – Develop and document the ITS Strategic Plan and drive the strategic planning process; oversee the Project Portfolio Management process (PPM); develop and document policy, standards, guidelines, and procedures for ITS portfolio management and governance.
  • Vendor Management & Procurement Services – Develop and coordinate policies, procedures, strategies, standards, reports, and support for ITS vendor management; collaborate with university procurement to negotiate contract renewals and new agreements; optimize and monitor vendor relationships, maximize value to the University and achieve cost savings and efficiencies.

IT Assurance

Overview

The Information Technology Assurance team provides University-wide leadership, vision, and strategy for information security, working to ensure the protection and integrity of the University’s information assets.

  • Technology Consultation & ImplementationÌý–ÌýResponsible for the overall management of the Technology Consultant team and the Boston College Computer Replacement Program (Ï㽶ÐãCR). Overview

The mission of the Systems, Operations & Architecture Services group is to provide a robust, reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable computing environment in support of all the academic and administrative computing needs of the Boston College user community. This team manages the infrastructure technologies and university services such as Active Directory, network activation, email services, and system backup, providing the foundation on which all technical services and applications across the University rely.

Scope

  • Collaboration Systems - Implements and maintains technologies to facilitate communication and collaboration including email services, web-based file sharing, personal and group calendaring, and application virtualization.
  • Data Center Operations - Maintains and monitors data center facilities and infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted IT services for the Boston College community. This includes overseeing system performance, managing production schedules, and coordinating problem notifications and resolutions with Facilities and ITS staff.
  • Capacity and Performance Planning - Manages enterprise systems used by various departments across campus and provides a robust storage solution for students, faculty, and staff. They play an increasingly critical role in enhancing security and ransomware protection while addressing the expanding needs of the Ï㽶Ðã community and supporting business continuity initiatives. Additionally, the team is integral to the management and execution of the ITS disaster recovery program, ensuring that systems are prepared for potential disruptions, minimizing downtime, and safeguarding data integrity.
  • Application Administrators - Designs, implements, and manages a wide range of client management solutions in support of the broader technology initiatives of ITS. These include virus protection for the campus, inventory management of workstations, workstation image definition and workstation backup.
  • Middleware Services – Supports application infrastructure components and services such as Load Balancing, High availability, End-point management, backups and encryptions.
  • Identity Management and Integration Services - Supports the processes to manage users and permissions so only authorized users have the access to protected services and applications.Ìý
  • Quality Assurance and Production Services- Provides software quality assurance to ensure alignment between software development and business requirements. They collaborate closely with software developers to facilitate rapid software releases and ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of critical IT systems and services. Additionally, the team works with application developers and infrastructure teams to automate production job scheduling. They also manage the maintenance of University ID management profiles and access.
  • Systems Administration - Installs, maintains, and supports the operating system software and data storage environment for all University centralized servers
  • Disaster Recovery and Systems Logistics - All on-site production data, servers, and applications are replicated nightly to three separate large storage arrays (including a recovery site out-of-state). Our disaster recovery methodologies are reviewed, augmented, enhanced and fully tested annually in the Spring, and audited annually.
  • Systems Engineering/DevOps teamÌý - Develops, implements, and supports processes, tools, and infrastructure in support of software development and deployment. The team leverages agile frameworks, CI/CD, containerization, infrastructure as code, and other modern technologies to engineer secure, reliable, and efficient processes in the Boston College Data Center.
  • Architecture Services – Advances the Application Architecture Environment to position Information Technology Services as a provider of an infrastructure and framework on which quality, reliable applications can be developed. Defines the standard set of tools, technologies, and frameworks used for application development and integration, and reviews new tools and technologies to ensure compatibility with the existing environment.
