Supporting and Empowering Women Around the World
In 2022, Burt's Bees kicked off a three-year, $2 million partnership to introduce beekeeping and expand processing capabilities in shea-producing communities in the northern region of Ghana. The SheKeeper program will introduce beekeeping to women in shea communities. It’s a partnership with our shea and beeswax suppliers, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and the Partnership for Natural Ingredients to . Currently, beekeeping around the world is managed predominantly by men, giving this program the potential to scale and improve the livelihoods of more than tens of millions of women collectors and processors across 21 African countries that make up the shea industry.
Kyndryl launched an initiative to advance cybersecurity skills among rural women in India. Under this initiative, on cybersecurity risks and best practices. "The Cyber Rakshak initiative is part of Kyndryl’s commitment to India’s broader socioeconomic development, particularly for financial inclusion and building diversity in India’s tech talent pool,” said President, Kyndryl India. “The cybersecurity landscape is more complicated by the day, and everyone needs the necessary tools and knowledge to better protect their data and improve their security posture. These are also important technical skills women professionals can bring to high-value career opportunities.”
In 2021, Enbridge donated $15,000 to Woman Aware as part of its where it operates. Woman Aware is a New Jersey based domestic violence services agency that helps survivors and their children move on form unsafe situations. The funding will help the organization meet it’s 2023 goals, which include sheltering 215 women and children, answering 6,000 hotline calls and providing non-residential services to 1,800 victims. “We shelter more than 200 women and children on average per year for anywhere from 30-day stays to 90 days or even more,” says Susan Dyckman, Development Director at Women Aware. “Last year, that number rose to 278.”
In honor of International Women’s Day, AEG hosted events in Los Angeles, CA on . Partnering with the YMCA of Metropolitan LA, Telemundo, the LA 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Committee, AEG hosted the YMCA’s 2nd Annual Girls Empowerment Day. The event brought more than 2,000 middle school girls from across the LA Unified School District to participate. The Girls Empowerment Day featured a discussion moderated by Telemundo’s Alejandra Ortiz where the panelists shared their personal career journeys, life lessons and tips for building self-esteem. The panelists included: Kara Lynn Joyce, three-time USA Olympic swimmer; Magali Ramirez, Finance and Operations Leader at Zoom Info; Linda Nguyen, Community Engagement Lead, Los Angeles at Microsoft Philanthropies Digital Inclusion and Community Engagement; and AEG’s , Senior Director of Community Relations and Foundation for Dignity Health Sports Park.
U.S. Bank sponsored a live art space and the She Media Meaningful Marketplace at the LA3C festival in Downtown Los Angeles. The bank’s art space featured local artist and designer Tamika Quillard, also known as Tamika Q, who created . Massachusetts Appleseed Center for Law and Justice, a Boston-based research and advocacy nonprofit, received a $50,000 grant from the Liberty Mutual Foundation to expand MA Appleseed’s project . The Foundation also provided a $5,000 supplemental operating grant to reflect the impact of inflation on the economy. This grant will help fund the expansion of MA Appleseed’s Legal Education, Advocacy, and Protections (LEAP) Project and enable the organization to raise awareness of the Massachusetts Homeless Youth Handbook, a state-specific resource guide for youth experiencing homelessness. The handbook includes 20 chapters on common legal questions to help young people understand their rights and responsibilities as well as direct them to support systems across the state. Under the guidance of Liberty Mutual’s pro bono program, 29 members of their legal team donated a total of 460 hours to draft chapters of the Massachusetts handbook.
